Neuro-psychiatric Complications of Anti-rabies Vaccine – (review with Case Reports)
نویسندگان
چکیده
In India rabies still remains a major public health problem and has high risk of mortality associated with it. Two types ot antirabies vaccines are in current use in human beings as prophylaxis against rabies, i) nervous tissue vaccine (BPL inactivated vaccine) and ii) duck embryo vaccine. Severe neuroparalytic reactions have been described following use of each type of vaccine (Toro et al 1977, Rubin et al 1973, Kaiser et al 1965, Shiraki et al 1962). These reports have described in detail neurological complications of the vaccine. However, no report has mentioned any specific psychiatric sequalae or behavioural abnormality associated with its use. In this paper we describe two cases who presented predominatly with behavioral disturbances following administration of antirabies vaccine.

Bilateral neuro-retinitis following chick embryo cell anti-rabies vaccination – a case report
BACKGROUND The Optic nerve is rarely involved after sheep brain anti-rabies vaccination in the form of retrobulbar neuritis or papillitis. Bilateral neuroretinitis after chick embryo cell antirabies vaccination has not been reported. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a 56 year old male who developed bilateral neuro-retinitis following three injections of antirabies vaccine prepared from...
متن کاملGuillain-Barre syndrome occurring after rabies vaccination.
A variety of events are associated with the onset of Guillain-Barre syndrome, including vaccinations and vaccines. These are the swine influenza vaccine, oral poliovirus vaccine and rabies vaccine. Rabies is a uniformly fatal disease. It is preventable if World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for post exposure treatment (PET) are followed. These include local treatment of wound, passive im...

متن کاملPost-exposure Treatment with Anti-rabies VHH and Vaccine Significantly Improves Protection of Mice from Lethal Rabies Infection
Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) against rabies infection consists of a combination of passive immunisation with plasma-derived human or equine immune globulins and active immunisation with vaccine delivered shortly after exposure. Since anti-rabies immune globulins are expensive and scarce, there is a need for cheaper alternatives that can be produced more consistently. Previously, we generated...
متن کاملProduction of Rabies Vaccine Using BHK-21 with Roller Bottle Cell Culture Technique
Compared to other methods of vaccine production, (e.g. culture flask and bioreactor system), the roller culture method for producing rabies vaccine is simpler, and the equipment easier to install and maintain, and also in the event of contamination of one roller, the entire batch need not be discarded. This system provides a much larger surface area than the culture flask, and also ensures a mu...
